What are Access Arrangements?

Access Arrangements allow candidates with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to participate in assessments without changing the demands of the assessment. These arrangements ensure compliance with the Equality Act 2010 to make 'reasonable adjustments'.

Extra Time

25% or 50% additional time for eligible candidates with processing difficulties or learning disabilities.

Reader/Computer Reader

Human reader or computer-generated voice for candidates with reading difficulties.

Scribe/Speech Recognition

Human scribe or speech-to-text technology for candidates with writing difficulties.

Modified Papers

Enlarged, coloured, or Braille papers for candidates with visual impairments.

Separate Room

Individual or small group accommodation for candidates who need distraction-free environments.

Home Invigilation

Examination at home for candidates with severe medical or mental health conditions.

Evidence Required for Access Arrangements

The regulations for access arrangements require us to maintain a file of evidence demonstrating that a candidate would be at a disadvantage without specific support. To ensure compliance, we ask that you provide relevant documentation showing a clear need for access arrangements.

Below is a list of exam board–approved types of evidence. You do not need to supply everything listed — only what you already have available. Our team can assist you in obtaining any additional evidence if required.

Please note: All documents must be originals — photocopies or digital copies cannot be accepted.

Acceptable Forms of Evidence
  • A previous Form 8 from your school or college

  • Any supporting reports from educators or tutors

  • Samples of written work completed within the centre

  • A mock exam paper completed under supervised conditions (either in the centre or online through our professional invigilation service).

  • An Individual Education Plan (IEP) or equivalent document stating the need for support

  • A current Educational Health and Care Plan (EHCP)

  • A letter from a qualified professional confirming evidence of a disability

Important Information

If the learner is younger than the equivalent of Year 9, access arrangements may not be granted. Approval is at the discretion of the awarding body and depends on the specific circumstances. Please note that providing reports or assessments does not guarantee approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about our Access Arrangement process.

Access Arrangements are adjustments made for candidates with disabilities, learning difficulties, or temporary injuries, ensuring they are not disadvantaged during exams. These adjustments modify how an exam is taken — not what is being assessed.

• Extra time
• A reader or scribe
• Use of a word processor or laptop
• Rest breaks
• Separate room or small group setting
• Modified papers (large print or Braille)
• Prompter or practical assistant

Any candidate who can provide evidence of need — for example, those with dyslexia, ADHD, anxiety, medical conditions, or other SEN requirements.

You must notify us at the time of registration. We’ll send you an Access Arrangements form, review your case, and inform you of any required evidence. Once submitted, we apply to the exam board for approval if required.

• An educational psychologist’s report or medical letter
• A school report or history of previous arrangements
• Other professional documentation confirming your ongoing need

Yes. Applications must be completed well before the exam board deadlines, often several months before the exam. We strongly advise applying as early as possible.

No. All requests are assessed by the exam board to ensure they are reasonable and in line with the Equality Act 2010. We’ll help you prepare the best possible application.

Not at all. These adjustments ensure fairness and do not alter grading or exam integrity.

Most standard adjustments are included in the exam fee. However, some services, such as home invigilation or specialist support, may incur additional costs.

Please contact us as soon as possible. We’ll do our best to help, but late applications may not meet exam board deadlines.
